“Island Issues and its Potential.”
The Philippines -National Average age of 24 years old, it's country’s population sum to 100 million (the country with the third-largest population in the world). While having vast human resources with full of energy, its political transformation has also met lots of challenges which may have delayed its development.
However, after Mr. Duterte inaugurated as president, the country with his strong leadership is moving fast forward to solve issues, partly with international collaborations. Not only for solving social issues, but that is also truly the case for advancing science and technology that leads to a firm foundation for the continuous growth of the country.
The Philippines, consisting of over 7,000 islands, also have “deep issues” in the area of infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare and so on that may be particular to those of an island country. We believe Japan, also a fellow island country, can also come together to collaborate with people in the Philippines to find solutions to these issues. We welcome researchers and startups who are working on solving issues unique to island countries.
