First Cellular Agriculture Conference in Japan
~”Clean Meat” : regenerative medicine to space farming~

Cellular agriculture is the production of agricultural products from cell cultures. One of the most notable cellular agriculture products is clean meat, made or “grown” by culturing animal muscle cells. Clean meat is regarded as one of the solutions to the pressing global food problem.

This conference marks the first in East Asia on the field of cellular agriculture.

One of the keynote speakers is Ms. Erin Kim, the Communications Director at New Harvest. New Harvest is also known for coining the term “cellular agriculture”. Other speakers include a leading figure in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, Prof. Shimizu, the head of TWIns lab, and Prof. Obata from Tokyo University of Agriculture, a prominent researcher in agricultural life sciences holding multiple internationally recognized awards.

Panel Discussion: How to work, and how to create innovation in knowledge society

Now, gathering "knowledge" has become essential than ever been. This society where having knowledge plays a key role, we call "knowledge society". In this knowledge society, not limiting to "special someone" to have an access to the information, having all people a chance to access, evaluate, and create the information is very important. In order to realize such society, what should we do? Each one of us need to understand the answer to "what is knowledge", how to create knowledge. In this session, we will discuss these questions based on some practical examples from industry and academia.

How we can train next generation leaders?

In 2020, university entrance examination system will change, and by year 2022, curriculum guidelines set by government will also change. With these drastic changes in the education sector, school environments will also be experiencing big changes. Students will be asked to engage in learning process in more active manner. Research projects to strengthen skills to solve issues with no obvious answers, "active learning", and "project-based" learning are some of the examples. When considering schools to be the place where students train necessary skills for being creative (in a sense that they can find and challenge issues with no obvious answers), there should be may clues there.
