The Philippines, being a country of islands divided by bodies of water, has always been faced with problems relating to its archipelagic nature such as logistics, infrastructure, and even medical care. Filipinos would be familiar with the current problem in the Philippines wherein people would flock to bigger cities such as Manila for certain reasons such as work for example. This creates an imbalance in certain sectors like the medical sector wherein the specialists would usually be focused in the urban areas, leaving the rural areas deprived of facilities and personnel.
In the emergence of the pandemic, certain technologies have also emerged in order to adapt to the problems even worsened by these trying times. The need for telehealth has increased and more doctors are also now adapting this new technology in order to protect their patients and themselves as well. However, emerging medical technologies are not limited to just telehealth initiatives but are also in various forms as well.
In the second panel session of the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference of the Philippines 2021, we will discuss these new emerging technologies and how they could possibly solve the problems that we are facing today. The panelists will include representatives from these medical technology startups as well as professionals from the medical field in order to discuss the possibilities of collaborations to advance medical technology for society.
The Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) in the Philippines 2021 is an initiative of the Leave a Nest Group to bring together people from different disciplines and walks of life, with the belief that a good level of diversity is the key to successful innovation. This year, the conference will be held fully online with the theme “Inclusive Disruption in an Island Nation: Disrupting with New Technologies while Maximizing Accessibility”.
